2.7 billion fraud: Sirika, Daughter, Two Others Grants ₦100m Bail Each

Federal High Court in Abuja has granted ₦100m bail each with two sureties to a former Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika, his daughter, and two others. 

They are being tried over an alleged fraud to the tune of ₦2.7bn.

According to the court, the sureties must have landed properties in Abuja and also responsible citizens.

The sureties must depose to an affidavit of means. The court also restricted the defendants from traveling abroad without its permission.

Justice Oriji ordered that the defendants should be remanded in prison custody if they failed to meet their bail conditions.

Matter Arising earlier reported that, Former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, and his daughter Fatima have been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Federal Capital Territory High Court. 

Facing charges of alleged fraud and abuse of office, involving a staggering sum of N2.7 billion. 

The duo arrived at the court on Thursday, 9th May, 2024 to answer to the charges, which are a result of thorough investigations into their activities during Sirika’s tenure as Minister. 

The EFCC alleges that Sirika engaged in corrupt practices, including embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds. 

The trial is ongoing, and the nation waits with bated breath to see how the case will unfold.
