2027: I will support Peter Obi, If – Atiku said categorically

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has revealed that he would support Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, if the party decides to zone the presidential ticket to the South-East in the 2027 general elections.

Atiku made this statement in an interview with BBC Hausa, following a meeting with Peter Obi in Abuja that sparked speculations of a potential merger between opposition parties.

Atiku clarified that the meeting was a friendly and routine gathering among opposition parties, essential for Nigeria’s democracy and national interest.

When asked about the possibility of a merger between the PDP and Labour Party, Atiku confirmed that it was “very much possible” and that nothing could stop it if they wished to achieve a common goal.

Addressing concerns about the choice of presidential candidate potentially hindering the merger, Atiku assured that the challenge would not arise.

He emphasized that he would abide by the party’s decision if they zone the presidential ticket to the South-East, and even went a step further by stating that he would support Peter Obi if he is chosen as the candidate.

Atiku’s willingness to support Peter Obi marks a significant development in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections, as it suggests a potential alliance between opposition parties to challenge the ruling party All Progressive Congress (APC).
