Remove Illegal Extensions before July 31st – Lagos Govt. tells Oshodi Traders

The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has issued a stern ultimatum to traders in Oshodi market, demanding the removal of all illegal extensions by July 31st.

Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, the General Manager of LASBCA, while speaking highlighted the importance of maintaining clear roadways within the market, stating, “The market is a road, and if there is no road, there is no market.”

He stressed the necessity for traders to comply with the directive, warning of the consequences of inaction.

Oki reiterated the administration’s unwavering commitment to clearing the right of way in all markets across the state, noting, “Clearing of the right of way is a standing order by the governor and there’s no going back until the right of way is clear in all markets across the state.”

In his address to the traders, Oki pointed out the economic benefits of compliance, emphasizing, “You are losing potential customers because of your illegal structures. If all roads in the market are motorable, potential customers will come to and patronize knowing they can drive in and out.”

Supporting this directive, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede, Chairman of Oshodi/Isolo, warned traders to avoid a scenario similar to the forceful removal of illegal extensions that took place in Lagos Island. He underlined the importance of voluntary compliance to avoid harsher measures.

The removal of illegal extensions is expected to not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the market but also improve the overall trading experience for both traders and customers.

By the July 31st deadline, Oshodi market is anticipated to be free of obstructions, facilitating smoother movement and creating a more conducive environment for commerce.
