Tinubu names Arterial, Abuja Highway after Professor, Wole Soyinka

President Bola Tinubu has honored Nigeria’s literary icon, Professor Wole Soyinka, by naming a major highway in Abuja after him. 

The Arterial Road N20, stretching from Northern Parkway to Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX), will now be known as Professor Wole Soyinka Highway.

This gesture was made as Professor Soyinka approaches his 90th birthday on July 13. President Tinubu praised Soyinka’s remarkable achievements, noting that he was the first African to receive the Nobel Literature Prize. 

He acknowledged that Soyinka’s works have brought immense honor and fame to Nigeria, showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage to the world.

By naming this key highway after Soyinka, President Tinubu recognizes the profound impact of the renowned playwright, poet, and novelist on Nigerian literature and culture. 

This tribute cements Soyinka’s legacy as a national treasure and an inspiration to generations of writers, intellectuals, and citizens.

The recommendation to name the highway after Soyinka came from the FCT administration, reflecting the widespread admiration for his contributions to Nigerian society. 

As President Tinubu pays tribute to Soyinka’s remarkable life and work, he also reaffirms the nation’s commitment to celebrating its cultural icons and honoring their enduring legacies.
