Viral Video: “We Prevent Illegal Demolition” – LASBCA Responds to ChiomaGoodHair

A viral video circulating on social media shows officials from the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) enforcing building regulations at Lekki Phase 1, Eti-Osa.

In the video, an individual is seen confronting LASBCA officials, while ChiomaGoodHair shared a post on her Instagram page, accusing the officials of attempting to steal their property.

LASBCA Clarifies the Incident;

In response to the video, the General Manager of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, addressed the claims, stating:

“The attention of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has been drawn to a misleading video circulating online regarding the removal of an illegal attachment to a building at 1A Olubunmi Owa Street, Off Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Eti-Osa, Lagos.”

He explained that the Lagos State Government, through LASBCA, remains committed to urban regeneration, sustainable development, and eliminating environmental and security hazards. The illegal attachment in question had been served multiple notices, including Contravention Notices, Seal-Off Notices, and Quit Notices, yet the occupants failed to comply.

Arc. Oki clarified that the owner of the property proceeded with an illegal demolition without obtaining the required Demolition Permit, a clear violation of the Lagos State Building Codes and Regulations. He emphasized that the LASBCA team discovered the illegal demolition during a routine Monitoring and Enforcement Exercise, where they faced resistance from individuals who had ignored state laws.

“The video circulating on social media shows individuals attempting to obstruct LASBCA officials and security personnel who were on-site to ensure law and order,” Oki stated.

He further pointed out that the video was deliberately crafted to mislead the public and attract sympathy for individuals who have consistently violated building and environmental regulations.

Oki noted that, ironically, the individual in the video admitted to receiving official notices from LASBCA, which undermines their claims of ignorance or injustice.

The General Manager reaffirmed LASBCA’s commitment to ensuring safe, secure, and sustainable urban development across Lagos State.

He urged the public to disregard the misleading narrative in the viral video and support the government’s ongoing efforts to create a cleaner, safer, and more organized Lagos.

“We remain undeterred in our mission and will continue to enforce building regulations without fear or favor,” Oki concluded.
