Government forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) successfully thwarted an attempted coup on Saturday night, bringing a tense situation under control as authorities work to restore order and investigate the perpetrators.
“An attempted coup d’etat has been put down by the defense and security forces. The attempt involved both foreigners and Congolese nationals,” stated Brigadier General Sylvain Ekenge, spokesperson for the Congolese army. “These individuals, including their leader, have been neutralized.”
Ekenge assured the public that the coup was “nipped in the bud,” emphasizing that the situation is now stable. Further details about the incident and those involved have yet to be disclosed as investigations continue.
