The Kano Assembly has nullified the Emirates Council Law, resulting in the removal of all positions created under the previous law as outlined in the new legislation.
All positions created by the previous law are no longer valid according to the new legislation. Additionally, all district leaders promoted or assigned under the previous law are required to return to their former roles.
As the time of filling this report there is no evidence that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi will return to the palace as Emir of Kano.
Recall that, Sanusi was ousted from the throne by the former governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, in 2020, citing alleged insubordination to his government.
In 2023, the Kano police arrested six individuals for reportedly expressing disapproval towards the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero .
The mother of the serving governor of Kano State, Hajiya Naja’atu Yusuf, expressed her wishes and prayed for the reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi while hosting the former Emir’s mother known as “Mai Babban Daki,” on a congratulatory visit to the Governor’s mother over his Supreme Court victory
However, there is no official statement from the government indicating an intention to reinstate Sanusi.
