Lagos Govt. Invites Consultants to Apply for Certified Accreditors Program (CAP)

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), is inviting interested consultants in the built environment who are registered with relevant professional bodies to indicate their interest in the State’s Certified Accreditors Program (CAP).

This initiative represents a public-private synergy designed to leverage the specialized expertise and experience of private sector professionals to enhance LASBCA’s effectiveness in service delivery, ensuring that all buildings in Lagos State are safe for human habitation and preventing building collapses.

Commenting on the call for expressions of interest, the General Manager of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, emphasized the importance of this program.

He stated, “Lagos State is set to engage consultants who will act as Certified Accreditors to complement the activities of government officials in screening drawings, conducting stage inspections, and monitoring activities for compliance with the Lagos State Building Control Regulations.”

Oki highlighted that this initiative aligns with the Lagos State Government’s policy of making Lagos sustainable, resilient, and attractive to businesses through effective physical planning and urban development.

By incorporating private sector expertise, the state aims to expedite its operational mandates and improve overall building safety and standards.

The program seeks consultants in the built environment who are duly registered to practice in Nigeria. These professionals must demonstrate proven capabilities, considerable experience, and a strong track record of performance. Additionally, they must be registered members of their respective professional bodies.

Interested members of the public who meet these qualifications are encouraged to obtain an Expression of Interest Form. These forms can be acquired upon payment of a stipulated fee from the General Manager’s Office at the LASBCA Headquarters, Room 101-First Floor, Muiz Banire Way, Old Secretariat, Ikeja GRA, Lagos. The forms will be available between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday, from June 3rd until July 12th, 2024.

Oki further noted that the collection of the Expression of Interest form does not constitute a commitment on the part of the State or LASBCA to award the project to any consultant expressing interest. “Submission of documents, which closes on July 31st, shall not entitle any of the interested parties to any claims against the State or LASBCA by virtue of such party having responded to the expression of interest,” he explained.

This call for expression of interest follows a recent announcement by the Lagos State Government, which was made through three national newspapers on May 30, 2024. The public is advised to refer to the Punch, Nation, and The Guardian newspapers’ publications from that date for further details.

The Certified Accreditors Program (CAP) is a strategic initiative aimed at fortifying the structural integrity of buildings across Lagos State. By engaging seasoned consultants, LASBCA aims to ensure that every new and existing building meets rigorous safety standards. This is part of a broader effort to prevent the unfortunate incidences of building collapses that have plagued the state in recent years.

In essence, the CAP is not just a regulatory measure but a proactive approach to urban development. It underline the state’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of its residents while promoting a sustainable built environment.

Through this program, Lagos State aims to set a benchmark for building standards, combining regulatory oversight with professional expertise.

As the submission deadline approaches, interested consultants are urged to act promptly. This initiative offers a significant opportunity for qualified professionals to contribute to the safety and development of Lagos State’s infrastructure. It also exemplifies the potential for successful collaboration between the public and private sectors in achieving common goals.

For additional information and details on how to apply, consultants are encouraged to visit the LASBCA Headquarters or refer to the specified newspaper publications.

The Lagos State Government remains committed to transparency and efficiency in this process, ensuring that the best candidates are selected to help achieve its vision of a safer and more resilient Lagos.
